  • VMSB-131 & VMSB-241 were the only two U.S. Marine Corps squadrons equipping with  SB2U-3 between March 1941 and September 1943.
  • Battle of Midway (5 June 1942) - Captain Richard E. Fleming struck Japanese cruiser Mikuma (三隈) with SB2U-3's bomb, and then crashed his aircraft onto the ship, for which he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
