Battle of Sunda Strait (28 February 1942) - invasion of the Dutch East Indies. Natori (with destroyers Asakaze, Shirayuki, Hatsuyuki, Shirakumo, Murakumo, Shiratsuyu, Shikinami, Harukaze, Hatakaze & Fubuki. Cruiser Mikuma & Mogami) sank light cruisers USS Houston and HMAS Perth.
repair & refit at Maizuru Naval Arsenal (24 May 1943 ~ 1 April 1944) - No. 5 and No.7 140 mm guns were removed. A twin Type 89 127 mm HA gun was fitted. Added 2 x triple mount Type 96 25 mm AA guns (Total 14 x 25 mm AA guns (2x3, 2x2, 4x1). A Type 21 air-search radar was fitted and hydrophones were installed at bow.
Natori was hit by 2 torpedoes from submarine USS Hardhead (SS-365) and sank at east of Samar, Philippine Sea on 18 August 1944.
