Invasion of Sarawak (December 1941) - with Kumano,
Indian Ocean Raid (6 April 1942) - sank 5 British & American ships (with Suzuya; destroyer Shirakumo & Shiokaze汐風)
Battle of Midway (5 June 1942) - Involved in the collision of Mikuma and Mogami

Operations in the Solomon Islands (14 November 1942 ~ January 1943) - Bombardment of Henderson Field on Guadalcanal on 14 November. (Suzuya with cruisers Maya (damaged), Tenryū, Chōkai (damaged), Kinugasa (sank) and Isuzu; destroyers Kazagumo, Makigumo, Michishio, Yūgumo, Asashio and Arashio )
repair & refit at Kure (12 January 1943) - AA guns was added. A Type 21 air search radar were installed.
refit at Kure (6 April 1943) - Two twin-mount 13mm machine guns were replaced by two triple-mount Type 96 25 mm AT/AA Guns.
Evacuation of Truk (1 February 1944)
refit at Singapore (24 March 1944) - eight single-mount Type 96 25 mm AA guns were installed.
Battle of the Philippine Sea 13 June 1944) - Suzuya with the battleships Yamato, Musashi and aircraft carriers Zuihō, Chiyoda, Chitose, and cruisers Atago, Takao, Maya, Chōkai, Kumano, Chikuma, Tone and Noshiro.
refit at Kure (25 June 1944) - Four triple-mount & 10 single-mount Type 96 25 mm AA guns were installed [Total 50 barrels (14×3 and 18×1)]. Type 22 surface search radar and Type 13 air-search radar were fitted.
Battle of Leyte Gulf (25 October 1944) - Battle off Samar, Suzuya was hit by 2 torpedoes from TBM Avenger. Suzuya was sunk at 13:22. Survivors was rescued by Okinami.
