M4A3E8/M4A3(76)W HVSS (Easy Eight) - Upgraded with widetrack Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS), fitted with the 76mm High Velocity cannon.
Wet (W) means ammunition stowage was moved to the hull floor, with water jackets surrounding each stowage bin. Wet stowage reduced the chance of fire after a hit to about 15%.
