Description

- World War Two
- Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN)
- 2nd Kuma-class light cruisers (total 5), named after the Tama River in Kantō, Japan.
- Northern Operations near Hokkaidō (10 September 1941 ~ 30 August 1943) - Battle of the Aleutian Islands (28 May 1942) with her sister ship, Kiso (木曽).
- Operations at Truk and Rabaul (15 September 1943 ~ 21 October 1943)
- refit at Yokosuka (27 October 1943) - Nos. 5 and No.7 140-mm guns were removed along with her aircraft catapult and derrick. A twin 127-mm HA gun was fitted. 4 x triple mount & 6 x single mount Type 96 25-mm AA guns were added [Total 22 (4x3, 2x2, 6x1)) x 25-mm guns]. A type 21 air search radar was also fitted.
- Battle of Leyte Gulf (20 October 1944) - Tama was hit by a torpedo from TBM Avenger, and retreated towards Okinawa. However, Tama was hit by 3 torpedoes from the submarine USS Jallao at Northeast of Luzon, and sank within minutes on 25 October 1944.
