  • 2nd Mogami-class heavy cruiser (Total 4), named after the Mikuma river in Oita prefecture, Japan
  • Invasion of Malaya (December 1941)
  • Invasion of British Borneo; Sumatra & Java (December 1941 ~ February 1942) - with Mogami; Chōkai.
  • The Battle of Sunda Strait (28 February 1942) - Sinking of cruisers USS Houston and HMAS Perth (with Mogami; light cruiser Natori; destroyers Shikinami; Shirakumo, Murakumo, Shirayuki, Hatsuyuki and Asakaze)
  • Indian Ocean Raids (1 April 1942) - sunk 3 British passenger & merchant ships. (with Chōkai, Mikuma; light cruiser Yura; destroyers Amagiri, Ayanami, Yūgiri, Asagiri and Shiokaze)
  • Battle of Midway - Mikuma collided with Mogami on 5 June 1942 (with Kumano, Suzuya; destroyers Arashio, Asashio). The following morning of 6 June 1942, Mikuma was hit  and sank by at least five bombs from U.S. dive-bombers from the aircraft carriers USS Enterprise and USS Hornet. Survivors was rescued by Suzuya; Arashio and Asashio.
