  • Amagi-class battlecruiser, Akagi was converted to an aircraft carrier to comply with the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922.
  • Commissioned: 25 March 1927
  • Reconstructed to single flight deck [completed on 31 August 1938]
  • 2nd Sino-Japanese War [1939~1941]
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor [7 December 1941]
  • Invasion of Rabaul in the Southwest Pacific [January 1942]
  • Bombing of Darwin, Australia [February 1942]
  • Indian Ocean Raid [March ~ April 1942] - Sinking of British heavy cruisers HMS Cornwall & HMS Dorsetshire; aircraft carrier HMS Hermes & Australian destroyer HMAS Vampire.
  • Battle of Midway [4~7 June 1942] - Akagi was scuttled by IJN destroyers on 5 June 1942 after severely damaged by dive bombers from USS Enterprise, USS Hornet & USS Yorktown. Total 4 IJN carriers was lost during Battle of Midway.
