- full load displacement 72,800 tonnes & armed with nine 46 cm Type 94 main guns.
- Battle of the Philippine Sea - Battle of Leyte Gulf (22 ~ 25 October 1944)
- Operation Ten-Go(天号作戦) - Yamato, cruiser Yahagi and eight destroyers embarked from Japan on a deliberate suicide attack on Allied forces engaged in the Battle of Okinawa
- on 7 April 1945, Yamato was sunk by American carrier-based bombers and torpedo bombers.
