2,650 SU-85 were built (mid1943 ~ late 1944)
was replaced by the SU-100 tank destroyer, with more powerful 100 mm D-10S gun
due to delays of 100 mm ammo, SU-85M (SU-100 + 85 mm gun, thicker frontal armor and commander's cupola) appeared in September 1944
